The Real Estate Agents Bill, 2020

The Association of Real Estate Agents (AREA) is pleased to announce the passage of the Real Estate Agents Bill 2020 in the House of Representatives on Friday, May 8th, 2020.

After thirty years of providing the structure, education and training to raise the standards of the real estate profession, establishing the guidelines that follow international standards, consumer protection for citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, and the push for Licensing and Registration of Real Estate Agents, AREA has achieved another milestone in the passage of this Bill.

The Bill now goes for review by the Senate on Tuesday, May 12th, 2020.

AREA wishes to thank the Honorable Attorney General, Mr. Faris Al-Rawi, and his diligent team of attorneys and drafters for their exceptionally long journey with us to bring to fruition this desperately needed Bill to regulate the industry and strengthen the fight against money-laundering and real estate fraud to which Government is committed.

This welcomed progress will ensure that all practitioners in real estate are adequately trained to provide the required and expected levels of service to the public, and establish the mechanisms to hold practitioners accountable for misconduct.

We continue to follow the historic progress being made toward the passage of this Bill.

AREA wishes to thank all those who have devoted their time freely to the development of this legislation as without their contributions we would not be where we are today.

This is a victory for the entire real estate profession, and the benefits of legislation will positively impact the professionalism of the service provided in future by all registered and licensed real estate Agents.

Mark Edghill,

President
